Practical Professional Ethics for Legal Professionals

1 hour

This seminar is a discussion between David W Marks KC and Peta Willoughby on the disciplinary matters that they are acting in relation to and David presiding over as a disciplinary panel member.  They consider and discuss some recent and important examples of ethical breaches, and how practitioners could conduct themselves in these scenarios.

David W Marks KC

TEP, CTA, is a commercial silk on Hemmant’s List, Brisbane. He has a large practice in tax and anything on the Chancery side.
He has an ongoing interest in professional affairs and has chaired 3 hearings as a member of STEP’s Disciplinary Panel (which still pegs him as a novice, given the long service of other members of the DP).

He also serves the professions through committee work and ad hoc submissions for the Law Council, STEP, TTI, and BAQ.

Peta Willoughby

Peta Willoughby was admitted to the legal profession in 2009 and called to the Bar in 2021.  She practises primarily in the fields of employment, industrial relations, work health and safety, regulatory law (including professional discipline) and administrative law. Prior to being called to the Bar, she practised in these areas for 12 years, both in private practice and in-house with the Queensland Government.  Throughout her career, she has focussed on the resolution of difficult disputes, including ADR and litigation.  Peta is an experienced advocate before the State and Federal courts, and in a range of specialist commissions and tribunals.
