Lawyer Using Gmail Account Shows They Mean Business by Adding “Law” in Their Email Address

PERTH — Clients of sole practitioner Jason Harrington say they feel immediately reassured after receiving correspondence from jasonlaw@gmail.com, noting that the inclusion of the word “law” in the email address clearly signals a serious legal operation.
“I thought about setting up a website or getting a proper domain,” said Harrington, who currently rents an office above a pizza shop three days a week. “But this really gets the message across. People see ‘law’ in the email and they know they are dealing with a professional.”
Harrington’s office space, which he describes as “well located,” is shared on alternate days with a real estate agent who uses the same desk to negotiate commercial leases. A handwritten sign reading Law Office is reportedly placed over the real estate branding when Harrington is in attendance.
Harrington is confident clients recognise his professionalism from the way he dresses. “I always wear a suit,” he explained. “Technically the jacket and pants are from two different suits, but they are both dark, and from a distance it works.” Observers have noted that while the jacket is slightly too small and the pants slightly too long, the overall effect remains “law-adjacent.”
Rather than maintaining a website, Harrington has listed his services on lawyers-r-us.com.au, an online directory that allows users to search by postcode and vague area of concern. His listed practice areas include criminal law, family law, estates, personal injury, property, immigration, tax, constitutional law, and “pretty much anything else that’s law.”
“I do general practice,” Harrington said. “If it has legislation, courts, or paperwork, I’ll have a go. And if I don’t know the answer, I know how to Google it responsibly.” He added that he also uses new technology, explaining that his daughter has lent him her ChatGPT login “for research purposes only.”
Industry observers note that branding through a Gmail address remains popular among budget-conscious practitioners. “Clients know that when someone adds ‘law’ to a Gmail address, they are serious,” said one commentator. “It is like wearing a tie, but digitally.”
The Law Society declined to comment, but confirmed it has received several enquiries relating to invoices issued from JasonLawPayPal, including questions about whether the account qualifies as a trust account.
